Boards and Advisory Committees

The 2024 AI roadmap mentions several boards and advisory committees at DoHS working on AI-related issues. This office profile lists all of the relevant boards and committees and their functions.

AI Safety and Security Board (AISSB)

Established by the Secretary under Executive Order 14110, the AISSB is composed of AI experts from the private sector, civil society, academia, and government. Its purpose is to advise on AI development and deployment, improve security and safety in critical infrastructure, and develop processes to review AI-related incidents. The board provides specific guidelines and best practices for AI use.

Board members include Sam Altman, Dario Amodei, Jensen Huang, Sundar Pichai, Satya Nadella, other industry leaders, and members of academia and civil society.

Homeland Security Advisory Committee (HSAC)

The Homeland Security Advisory Committee provides advice to the Secretary on homeland security operations. In 2023, HSAC issued AI recommendations that informed many actions in the DHS AI roadmap.

The Mission-Focused AI subcommittee members include Marc Andreessen, Matt Shortal (Andreessen Horowitz), and Tarika Barrett (Girls Who Code).

Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative

The Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative is a cybersecurity-focused group that gathers cybersecurity experts from organizations worldwide. It collects, analyzes, and shares cyber risk information for synchronized cybersecurity planning, defense, and response strategies.

CISA Cybersecurity Advisory Committee

The CISA Sybersecurity Advisory Committee advises the CISA Director on policies and programs related to CISA’s mission, with a specific focus on promoting the adoption of secure software design practices.

Cyber Safety Review Board

The Cyber Safety Review Board, created by Executive Order 14028, combines government and private sector members to review cyber incidents. It makes recommendations to improve cybersecurity and reports to the Secretary of Homeland Security and the President. The Board aims to learn from incidents and share lessons to enhance national cybersecurity.
