How did you get started in this field? As a student activist. I did my 1995 Masters thesis in political science on the topic of the political, humanitarian and security implications of banning antipersonnel landmines.

What do you like about your work? Knowing that my work contributes directly to preventing and mitigating human suffering.

What do you not like about your work? The awful harm caused by the use of various weapons used in conflicts, such as Syria. It’s not possible to un-see certain images.

Do you have any advice for women who want to enter this field? Study what you are passionate about and not what you think will get you a job.

What makes you hopeful for the future? The people I get to work with as they are so committed, motivated and fun. They inspire me to do better every day.
