Andrew Trask,
AI companies depend on millions of data sources to train their models. Many data providers (news organizations, research institutions, content platforms) are taking defensive measures like filing lawsuits or restricting access, but lack the infrastructure to maintain control or receive compensation. At the same time, AI companies build billion-dollar valuations from their data.
OpenMined will create a proof-of-concept demonstrating federated infrastructure where data providers control their content while receiving per-query payments. Data providers will host content, process queries locally, and maintain decision rights over usage.
