FLI Interim Recommendations for the AI Action Summit

Our recommendations for the AI Action Summit, to be held in France from 10-11th of February 2025.

The Future of Life Institute's recommendations for the AI Action Summit outline a strategic framework for global AI governance, prioritizing international collaboration and the development of clear safety standards. These recommendations focus on a comprehensive approach across three core areas: understanding AI risks (science), fostering global cooperation (solutions), and establishing robust international standards (standards).

  • Science: The recommendations emphasize the need for independent expert assessments to evaluate the risks of autonomous AI and advocate, within the Summit, for live demonstrations of potentially harmful AI capabilities, particularly in contexts such as electoral integrity.
  • Solutions: We highlight the importance of fostering dialogue between key nations, especially China and the United States, to address global AI safety challenges effectively.
  • Standards: To prevent policy fragmentation, we recommend the integration of the Seoul voluntary commitments into the European framework set by the AI Act and its Code of Practice currently being drafted. Our recommendations also underline the need to establish clear international boundaries, known as “red lines”, to guide the development of AI in a responsible manner.
